Your CIAT Research Online, September 2015

Dear All,

The Data and Information Management team is pleased to share with you the latest CIAT Research Online Newsletter, which includes new CIAT research outputs submitted after the July 2015 newsletter. Please see a few highlights below.
  • We have 89 peer-reviewed journal articles in our 2015 records, 76 of these were published in ISI indexed journals, and 51 are open access. Our average number of peer-reviewed publications for the last 3 years has been 134.
  • Twelve (12) primary datasets have been published in 2015 so far. Please submit information about any primary data used while submitting your publication to the Library.  In this newsletter we highlight 2015 publications that have published datasets.
  • The CIAT Dataverse now includes three new sub-Dataverses, one for each research area - See the Agrobiodiversity, DAPA and Soils Dataverses. Published datasets for each research area can now be easily accessed on each of these new Dataverses. This is in addition to the wonderful search and filters the CIAT Dataverse provides to assist in locating datasets.
  • We are still collating ORCID numbers for CIAT researchers; we have collected 24 so far. This unique identifier is important for author disambiguation, which will help us track your outputs better. If you have not done so. kindly register for an ORCID number here and send it to CIAT-library@cgiar.org. Learn more about ORCID numbers from our blog.
Strengthening of Data Management in CIAT: With the strengthening of the Office of Program Coordination, the new Data, Information and Knowledge group now has a team dedicated to coordinating and supporting research data management and open data within the Center. This team will complement the fabulous staff who do data management within research teams and that are now coalescing into a data management community of practice. This data team consists of Arturo Franco, Carolina Garcia, Paola Cruz and myself. Do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any matters related to data management.

Congratulations to all for your publications and other research outputs. Kindly note that you can always view the latest research outputs on the CGSpace platform and on the intranet - CIATNet.

Best regards,

Leroy Mwanzia

57% of 2015 refereed journal articles are Open Access.
85% of our 2015 refereed journals are in the ISI Master Journal List.

Due to the proliferation of predatory journals, please contact the Library if you are unsure whether the journal you are about to submit to is reputable.

Adjacent are the steps the Information Management team is currently using to filter out Predatory Journals:
  • Journal is not in the globally recognized journal databases e.g. ISI master journal list and SCOPUS
  • The journal is not a member of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) or the publisher not a member of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA).
  • The journal or publisher is listed in Jeffrey Beall’s list of “potential, possible, or probable predatory” journals and publishers.

CIAT assesses the impact of your work through a tool called Altmetrics. Altmetrics are an alternative to traditional citation metrics. They measure the online attention and reach of research outputs through digital communication such as news stories, blogposts, Tweets, and storage in resources such as Mendeley and CiteULike.
