Your CIAT Research Online, May 2015

Dear All,

The Data and Information Management team is sharing with you the latest CIAT Research Online Newsletter.  This newsletter includes all the 2015 research outputs submitted after the last newsletter. Congratulations to all for your publications and other research outputs.  Please see a few highlights below.
  • We have 43 peer-reviewed journal articles in our 2015 records, 27 of these are open access.
  • 4 peer-reviewed journal articles have published primary data that underlie the publication.
  • The CIAT Dataverse will now be harvested by the Data Citation Index on the Web of Science. This will potentially increase visibility, citation of data, and in the future better metrics on data citation.
  • Gentle reminder for you to submit any 2015 policy briefs. Last year we had 9 policy briefs in our records.
Notable highlight: Data papers, scholarly data communication.
Data papers are peer reviewed publications that describe online accessible datasets.  These papers describe the content, context, quality and structure of the data rather than the hypotheses and analyses. In CIAT, we already have 2 data papers, published by Soroush Parsa, Jaime Gómez Naranjo, Andrés Vásquez, and the rest of their team in the Agrobiodiversity Research area.

Sincerely on behalf of the "open" team,

Leroy Mwanzia

CIAT assesses the impact of your work through a tool called Altmetrics. Altmetrics are an alternative to traditional citation metrics. They measure the online attention and reach of research outputs through digital communication such as news stories, blogposts, Tweets, and storage in resources such as Mendeley and CiteULike.
